About to buy a Sony DDU-1612, need confirmation on one thing

I am about to purchase the above drive and I know it is Liteon LTD-166S rebadged so is it possible that I can use the flashfix tool to flash the drive with the latest 166s firmware and make it rpc1?

If not or if this would cause problems I'll buy the pioneer 120s as thats my second option, if anyonethinks i should choose the pioneer over the sony pleas elet me know, i will be ordering today!

thanks all

The DDU-1612 is a rebadged 166S and can easily be made region free. There are lots of tools and firmwares you can use with it.

Be careful not to confuse the final 1 and 2 in the model number, because the DDU-1621 is a rebadged BTC BDV-316B. There is an rpc1 firmware for it, but it isn't a Lite-On and won't work with all the Lite-On tools.

I know about the 12/21 thing as the shop here is selling the 21 variant (after searching the firmware page i found the 21 is a rebadged BTC one) whilst the drive komplett are selling is the 12 so I might as well get it and all user reviews of it are 4-5 stars, also i can use it with kprobe!

cheers for your info too!
