How can I tell how large a hard drive's cache is?

By looking on the HDD label. If it doesn't say 8MB, it'll be a 2MB.

even seagate? cuz the outside of the box said 8 mb, but I read a review of compusa on resellerratings that said that the outside of the box said it was an 8mb, the actual drive was a 2mb. (This one is a 120, the one mentioned on resellerratings was a 80)

It should say on the physical drive what cache it is. The user at resellerratings should not be so quick to blame compusa (if he did) as it would be seagate's fault. BTW, Seagate has a plant here in MPLS.

Go to the your Hardrive manufacturer WEB site find your HD model number and read about Technical Specification of it, that would tell everything you like to know about your drive.

Try Active Smart. It will give loads of details on HDD's. Including Temp changes, SMART details, etc...
