In House Review - AOpen DRW4410 4x DVD+R/RW

Postby Ian on Mon Nov 10, 2003 1:44 pm

Today, CDRLabs takes a look at AOpen's new DVD+R/RW drive, the DRW4410. While affordably priced, the DRW4410 delivers 4x DVD+R and DVD+RW writing speeds as well as a maximum DVD read speed of 8x. AOpen's new DVD writer also includes features like like 24x CD writing speeds, 40x CD read speeds and support for technologies like JustLink and JustSpeed.

In our review, we take a look at some of the drive's features and then put it up against some of the other DVD writers we've taken a look at recently. Does the DRW4410 have what it takes? Is it the best bang for your buck? You'll have to read the review to find out.

Due to the nature of the drive ( + only ), the overwhelming lack of posts on this drive is not surprising. Your efforts are appreciated however, Ian.

I figured that was why. Hopefully AOpen is paying attention to that fact. I can't remember if their new 8x drive is a dual format or not.

Nice review it looks like Ricoh finally fixed the problems with cd-r writing quality with a firmware update.

Hmm if Aopen is going for a dual does this means that Aopen is no longer working with Ricoh or is Ricoh now also supporting -R ?

Not sure. They had an 8x drive on display at Computex and it had DVD-R/RW and DVD+RW logos on the front of it. That's all I know so far.

It was a very informative review - great work!

I bought an Aopen DRW4410 a couple of weeks ago, and although pleased with it, I wasn't sure how it stacks to other writers - good to be able to compare it.

Even though, as the review pointed out, it's performance is a little lacking in some areas, but it is of no consequencve to me if it writes a DVD in 14 minutes or 15 minutes, as long as it does it well, and evidently it does. As it is not a dual format, I like being able to set the "book type", although my 2 dvd players read the burned dvd's no matter what the "book type". And the price was good and from Costco, so the warranty is excellent.

Yeah, I forgot to bring up the book type thing. Thanks for pointing that out.
