Laptop Recommendations

Postby Ian on Mon Nov 17, 2003 2:48 pm

The wife wants a new laptop for Christmas. Speed isn't an issue, however she wants one with one of those pointer sticks. I have one on my Dell D600, but they seem to be hard to find otherwise. Anyone have any recommendations?

I've been fairly happy with my Gateway laptop over the past 11 months, but I don't have any specific recommendations.

I love my HP ze4401us, in fact, I am typing away on it right now. It is a very good computer, and is a very good deal.

Get her a Powerbook. She'll love you for it.

Pointer sticks? As in an eraser head? I don't see too many laptops with those anymore, though IBM seems to still have them.

IBM isn't known for bleeding edge laptops, but they are pretty thin these days and rock solid, physically. I have a few friends who have IBM's, and they've put their laptops through some hell and they are still running fine. Not to mention, they have a high reputation among the few laptop mailing lists I follow. But, they aren't the prettiest or cheapest laptops.

I personally stick with Toshiba, since they are usually at the bleeding edge of laptop technology. I've had 3 Toshiba's now, and no complaints on any of them.
