I'd vote Nvidia, but on-board graphics are never good.

nvidia nforce2 boards with onboard video is not bad. It is a Geforce 4 mx440 on the MSI-K7N2G-ILSR. I liked it alot better than the Geforce 2 it replaced.I had to upgrade video cards again as the onboard one cant take high bus speeds.I have a Nvidia 5600 Ultra now and love it but for most use including Quake 3 and the such the onboard ones from nvidia are pretty good.

ATI rs300 is the most powerful onboard graphics now .
It is the first to have directx 8 pixel and vertex shader,fastest t&l engine and a 4pixel pipeline in onboard graphics.

Afaik, On board or Add on, the performance should be same. I prefer ATI and Nvidia comes as second choice. If you can, stay away from Intel because, it's only meant for Corporate usage but not for gaming (Assuming you are a gamer).
Stone walls do not a prison make,
Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace
