Recommendation for PC speakers?

Postby Kantos Kan on Tue Nov 25, 2003 3:43 am

I would appreciate any recommendations for PC speakers, $100 or less. Thanks!

Hmm, got a stereo? Buy the proper wire to hook your PC up to the stereo and you're in business! Much cheaper than buying a speaker system. :)
No, I like women.

Computer speakers are relatively inexpensive although depending on the quality you are loking for, you can spend a bundle as well.

What type are you looking for, 2.1, 4.1 or 5.1? Creative Labs and Altec Lansing make decent ones in your price range.

You want Yamaha's YSTMS50 ($69.99 at Buy.com) if you go 2.1. The best damn 2.1 set I've ever heard, and #3 in line overall when it comes to 2.1 speakers (#1 = Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, #2 = Altec Lansing 621).

Although you can get cheap Logitech 4.1 and 5.1 systems for under $100, no one in their right mind would recommend those (Z540 and Z640, respectively). You'll need to pay more than $100 if you want 4.1 or 5.1.

Speakers

Thanks, I'm actually posting this for a friend of mine. He's running a PC with a SoundBlaster Live! audio card. I'll have to find out whether he wants to go 2.1, 4.1, or 5.1.

I did find some interesting stuff (including the YSTMS50's for $40 after rebate) at Buy.com:

I have the Logitech's Z-560 and they are great. They're THX 4.1 surround sound speakers. The subwoofer has 188 watts and the satellites have 53 watts. I have Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum card and let me just say that these speakers really rock. I paid 199.99 at Best Buy, but you can pick them up at www.nutrend.com for about 147.00, no tax, and 17.00 for shipping. You may want to check other sites for a better price. Good Luck.
