Some people think, by virtue of his number of posts, that he is a seasoned professional and take his "drivel" as gospel.
I think he needs to be outed when he rants.
I think you are both right. I do try to ignore silliness in general because the people who post it often just want attention. As TheWizard suggests, the best way to deal with these sorts is to ignore them. However, as pkd7423 points out, others (newbies in particular) may confuse volume with authority and get bad advice as a result.
Now, this doesn't mean that aviationwiz can't or hasn't ever contributed useful content. He can and has. And I think everyone can make valuable contributions to the forums. However, the only way to do this is to post objective information and reasoned, supportable opinions while leaving unsubstantiated opinions, bashing, trolling, etc. at the door.
aviationwiz wrote:Outrageous? I would hardly cosider posting my views and backing it up well outrageous.
I wouldn't consider that outrageous either. But that isn't what you have done in this thread.
aviationwiz wrote:Besdies, I was only partially right on this one, and I was wrong on a question about the LDW-811S, so I don't see how I "have to be right".
Actually being right and having to feel as if you are right are two different things. Look at this thread. You weren't partially right, you were completely wrong. But more importantly, try to step back and objectively look at how you have fought tooth and nail to try to maintain some semblance that your original post was "right". You carefully parsed your original post, redefined its meaning and narrowed its scope, reinterpreted the meaning of common phrases to suit your purpose, focused on irrelevant tangents, and even went so far as to contact the creator of the subject film. Seriously, ask yourself if that is normal behavior. Would someone who isn't obsessed about proving he is "right" go to all that trouble? Perhaps this matter and the reasons underlying it also deserve some introspection on your part.
As for the content of the PM you posted, it adds nothing new to the discussion to support your (rather precarious) position. Even worse, it puts you in a bad light.
First, the fact the recording was made specifically for the film is no surprise. No one doubted that the filmmaker had to make a phone call (or two) to document Apple's position for the benefit of his movie. Unless he is rather disturbingly in the habit of taping all of his phone calls, he would have to call specifically to record Apple's response. But that doesn't support your contention that he called simply to insult Apple and the iPod or that his battery isn't actually dead. More importantly, and once again I am forced to repeat it, whatever the motivation for, or circumstances surrounding, the making of this film, the information it conveyed was 100% accurate, and not a "bunch of BS" as you initially posted.
Second, as I already explained, going so far as to contact the filmmaker raises questions about your ability to maintain perspective and accept making mistakes.
Finally, the response to your PM indicates that you at the very least questioned the legality of the actions pictured in the film. Perhaps you even made accusations against the filmmaker - I don't know. Either way, it shows both the weakness of your position and the lengths you will go to feel "right": if you can't attack the message, you attack the messenger.
Well I have harped for too long on this. But perhaps my words have had some positive effect. I see that you first changed your signature from "Proud owner of ..." to "Proudly South African" but then switched to a slogan for South African Airways. I guess that is progress of a sort. Pride on the whole is a negative character trait. Check the synonyms for "
proud", and consider that pride is the first of the
seven deadly sins. Furthermore, being proud to be South African or any other nationality is arguably worse than being proud of possessions. One's possessions might at least conceivably say some tiny little thing about one's character, but nationality is nothing but an accident of fate and says absolutely nothing about one's character or worth. Moreover, "pride" in nationality or other group membership is the root of much evil and suffering in this world.
Peace, and Happy Thanksgiving.
