PC Comes To The PC

Postby jmbrown12 on Mon Dec 01, 2003 2:19 pm

Political correctness has made it to personal computers, at least in Las Angeles County. According to the L.A. Daily News the county has banned "as potentially 'offensive or defamatory' the words master and slave from computer hard drives and video equipment where they are used to describe primary and secondary circuits."
The complete article can be found here.

The replacement terms - primary and secondary - are used to refer to IDE channels, so now there will be even more confusion:
Imagine referring to a drive hooked up as a 'primary primary' connection versus a 'primary secondary' connection, as opposed to the old terms - 'primary master' vs a 'primary slave'.

jackasses!
they would do better to spend their time, effort and money doing something useful such as fighting real slavery, which still exists in various places in the world.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
What a waste of money. There are a million and one better uses of county funds, including the one you suggested dodecahedron.

hehe, seemed the most appropriate one under the circumstances.

damn..."secondary" is still a word in the Enlish language.
what do they want with the comuter-tech industry?
so what if a piece of equipment is called "secondary" ???

why not ban the word "secondary" altoghether from the language.

SECONDARY SECONDARY SECONDARY

there i've said it. now shoot me. :x

That is just incredibly screwed up.

I think a thread could go like so:

Code: Select all
User: My LPD-56408S isn't working right, it is going too slow, how do I fix it?

CDRecorder: Which firmware version does it have? Have you updated to the latest version of Nero?

Dodecahedron: How to enable DMA in Windows XP (with pictures)

User: I am running the latest version of Nero (6.0.0.74) and I have the latest firmware (FS0PS), DMA is enabled

aviationwiz: Get a Plextor

Ian: He has a Plextor

aviationwiz: Get a Plextor

Ian: He already has a Plextor (LPD is Lite-On, Plextor, NU Tech "joint venture")

aviationwiz: Get a pure Plextor

User: Anyone have any real help here?

cfitz: What is the drive hooked up on and what motherboard do you have?

User: It is hooked up on Primary Secondary and I have the Biostar BX-85247

cfitz: Hook it up on Primary Primary or Seconday Primary, this drive does not like being on either Primary Secondary or Secondary Secondary. Here are 14 links explaining it:

User: It worked, thanks cfitz.

hoxlund: I can get you a good deal on a pure plextor supreme burner

Dodecahedron,
Britney already has her set of minions (and glitzy ones - considering her video clips). Being a Labs Geek, maybe you should rethink your choices... ROTFL :) :) :) Good luck anyways.

Aviationwiz, Have you ever considered working for Plextor PR Dept?

 Good one, aviationwiz. Very funny. :D

I saw this on another site a couple of days back and also thought it was an incredible waste of time and taxpayers' dollars. Don't these people have anything better to do? Come on people, do something that will really help people still suffering from discrimination or worse.

My black brothers have been mocked long enough by computer hardware terminology. Held down by the man. The "slave" couldn't go first, it isn't good enough. The bigger, better one is the "master." They never work together. Fight the powersupply!
A man has been charged after allegedly punching a 73-year-old woman in the face, breaking her nose and stabbing her in the arm with a corkscrew before hitting a second woman with a bottle at a wedding reception in the Whitsunday Islands.

This is America, we don't do that sort of thing here. We believe in electing celebrities to office and passing ludicrous bills such as this one. It's the way Abraham Lincoln would have wanted it; we're fighting slavery on all levels.

i think saying something like that tarnishes the memory of what Abraham Lincoln stoof for.

but yes it's true, Americans have the God Give/Constitutional (cross one out) right to behave like idiots.
i guess it's part of what America the great nation it is (no sarcasm!)
