What's the best DVD-ROM regardless of price?

How fast is too fast?

What's the best DVD-ROM regardless of price?

What's a DVD-ROM drive that would last for a long time, always rip movies at a decent speed, read all formats available (DVD-R,DVD+R, DVD-RW,DVD+RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM) and that is not too noisy?

Please don't talk about price. I want quality. Also be straight to the point. One brand, one model, one fact.

I don't care about DVD-RAM too much.

Thanx :D

Lite-On 166S. Fast DVD Ripper, fast CD access/ripping. Bonus: It's cheap.
Soon to be proud user of Mandrake 10 (again!). SuSE 9 sucks!

alternative:
Toshiba SD-M1712, with the no-limit hacked firmware.

most people would say the best is either the LiteOn XJ-HD166S or the Toshiba i mentioned.

the Toshiba is on it's way out, replaced by SD-M1802 which apprently isn't very good. if you want the 1712 you'd better hurry.

the Toshiba SD-M1712 is (reportedly. not personal experience) quieter than the LiteOn 166S, even with the no-speed-limit firmware.

I'm a fan of Lite-On DVD-ROM drives. I have the LTD-163D (my second one, first one kicked the bucket after a day)

Liteon 166S is compatible to all media, including dvd-ram, and gets my vote.
