I've got a BenQ 4x +RW drive that I was thinking would be better off in a 'portable' case.. you think this is a good thing? Would there be any software issues?

Also. ripping speed.. I've got no USB 2.0 devices (though both my systems have only 2.0 ports). Worth it? Yes, no?

And.. how many of these devices can I put on one system before it bogs down ? The DVD burner and a 80gb drive in another woud probably do me quite well (file Xfers from client's machines).

USB 2.0 is critical for external hard drives or burners, especially compared to USB 1.0. You can put as many devices as your CPU and RAM can handle - it's not as much as firewire, since firewire has built-in processing capabilities, whereas USB utilizes the CPU. Test and see what your limit is.
