In German, this is called a "Schnapszahl"- all digits the same. Have a Schnaps to celebrate!

Danish - Tuborg! :D

i don't much like the Israeli brews (there are 2-3 only).
the "mainstream" ones are a couple of Israeli brands, Tuborg, Carlsberg, Heineken. from among these the only one i really like is the Tuborg. the Red-Label - the stronger stuff.

by i like others better. one of my favorites is Becks (German! :D ). others - Leffe (Belgian), Budweiser (sp?) not the American beer (ugh!) but the one from Checkoslovakia (sp? again).

Becks is good stuff. Unfortunately, it now belongs to the Belgian Interbrew concern, as does the Canadian Labatt's.

I like the bitter taste of Becks Pilsener. Jever is also very good. Of the local breweries (Frankfurt and environs), I prefer Licher. Binding is drinkable, Henninger tastes like it's been filtered through a horse. (Henninger is part of the Binding (Dr. Oetker) concern, now though- financial problems- and they do earn kudos for sponsoring the bike race on 1 May each year).

I lived in Giessen in 91'/92 and Licher is the only beer we would drink.Being in the U.S.,beer here is rather "lightweight" and Licher was the only beer I could drink without falling down. :D
We could also handle Pfungstadter and Giessener(I believe that was the name).
Henninger tastes like it's been filtered through a horse.

MediumRare, you should consider writing comedy. :D

LOL thinking about it now...it reminds me of a part of the book "The Tin Drum" by Gunter Grass. the scene on the beach, with the fishing for eels with a horses head :o

Just about any medium-sized town has (or used to have) a brewery. There is increasing consolodation though, because the beer consumption is going down- people are drinking increasingly more wine these days. I think the Czechs are the No. 1 beer drinkers in Europe now (good stuff there too).

I cribbed that line from some guys in Toronto who were talking about American beer! (This was 30-odd years ago, so I don't thing they're listening in here ). I've been using it routinely about Henninger (it really doesn't taste that great) for so long that I forgot that it's "original".

NoSmartz- haven't tried Giessener myself, but Pfungstädter is OK too. I don't think that Licher is "lighter" than the others though. I hear that American beer is kept thin so that it qualifies as "non-alcaholic" and can be sold at ball games.

Nevertheless, I agree with NoSmartz that you have a keenly developed sense of humor, particularly of the dry variety. That should be another course you teach at the CDRLabs University: Writing 510 - Witticism and Humor". :D

Yeah when I lived there in Deutschland I tried about 15 different "hamlet's" or "heim's" brew.I'm assuming "heim" means town(as with hamlet)'cause my aunt, uncle and 2 cousins live in a town with that "heim" in it's title along with several other towns.Never learned a lot of Deutsch.Just enough to get by,but the beer there was STRONG!!!!!!!!! American beer is tap water in comparison. It's not light tasting for ball game purposes,it's that american breweries are afraid to brew what beer is really supposed to taste like-GERMAN!!!!!(probably due to high alcohol content,we got wicked drunk driver's over here)
I do remember working on an army base in Giessen and all the locals that worked there had beer for every lunch,AT ROOM TEMPERATURE!!!!!!Giessener was the first I tried, but when I was there the thing was Wine, bigtime!!!Everybody drank wine.Bus trips to wine country and all that.I can't touch the stuff, uhhhhhhh!!!!!Too strong.Every other town seemed to have there own winery to.
