Staples Ad - 1/11 thru 11/17

http://instorespecials.staples.com

Memorex 10 pack DVD+R or DVD-R media (w/ jewel case) - $9.94
HP 50 Pack CD-R media - $7.94
I/OMagic 52/24/52 CD-RW - $39.94
Pacific Digital 8x DVD Dual Drive - $129.94 after $25MIR and $25IR

The Memorex discs are a good deal if they're 4x. Especially since there's no rebate involved.

Wow that is a great price for the Memorex, the website says they're both 4x but only the +R box says so:
www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp? ... Sku=512268

www.staples.com/Catalog/Browse/Sku.asp? ... Sku=512272

I was shocked by this statement:"New speeds are backward compatible with older speed drives."

If the Memorex are 4x DVD-R's, then they're CMC (at least if they say "Made in Taiwan"). Got a 5 pack sitting here...they burned fine when Nero 6 would actually work.

Last time looked the I/O Magic 52x24x52 were Benq drives. Then again they could have changed drives.

Is the Pacific Digital DVD +/- RW a good drive? It seems like it has gotten some good reviews on the DVDRHELP forum. Is it a repackaged Liteon 811s?

damn! :x
there should be a forum rule against posting such long URLs.

that's what the BBCode [ url ] ... [ /url ] are for.

I went to Circuit City to see if they would price match the Staples ad on the Memorex DVD-R's. I was pleasantly surprised that they did. With their 110% policy, these ended up being less than .75/disk, great for 4x media. My local store no longer has any in stock. :)

In case anyone was wondering, dvdinfo on these read:
Media Information
Region info N/A not a DVD-VIDEO
Media code/Mfr ID CMCMAG.AF1
Formatted Size Blank
Total Size 4.38GB(4.71GB)
Book Type DVD-R
Media type V2.2 DVD-R
Media Id Code Speed Unknown
Write Srategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBs
Current Drive Speed 4.0x 5540KBs
Default Rotation Control CLV
Linear Density 0.267um/bit
No of Layers 1

Hi dodecahedron, I think tinyurl has a database that generates a dynamic code combination that internally refers to the longer url, in this case DVDRhelp.

It's a free service, similar to www.makeashorterlink.com, and works really well!

Just an update on the memorex/cmc 4x dvd-r's. So far 2/2 successful burns @4x using dru-500 G firmware & recordnow. Filled up both dvd's & didn't seem to have problems w/data at the edges.
