I agree, TDK DVD+R media is really good. This is a pretty hot deal. Too bad I don't have a Staples close by.

I picked up a couple of the TDK DVD+R spindles yesterday. Finally, I can use my new burner (2 weeks later)... I got the last 2 spindles at the 2nd Staples that I went to... The first one, of course, was out.

Ok, I got 3 spindles of the TDK 4x +R media, but the packaging has a black bottom with a rounded top. Any ideas on the manufacturer? :-? I seem to remember that the last time I purchased this brand of media it had a grey bottom, so have they changed manufacturers like Memorex? I would like to be positive that I am getting media that will be capable of burning at 8x since I am looking towards getting an 8x burner in the near future and I would like to have some media to take full advantage of the speed increase over my current 4x burners.

Black bottom spindles

Postby jeldrid on Wed Jan 21, 2004 4:07 pm

The spindles I purchased also had a black base with a rounded top edge. I tested them with DvdinfoPro, and they came back as Ricoh...

Well, crap. The TDKs I've been getting from Target have been Ricoh. I ordered two of these spindles and they are CMC!

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 43 4D 43 20 4D 41 47 00 (CMC MAG.)
Disc TID = 46 30 31 (F01)
Manufacturer Maybe = CMC Magnetics Corporation
SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write)

I burned one and it seems OK. Should I send the other spindle back or will they be consistent?

Dunno, people have been saying that CMC DVDRW discs> CMC CDRW discs. YMMV though.
