pagefile.sys

How can I change the pagefile.sys to another partition? I'm using WinXP Pro.
Still burning with my LTR-16101B.

My Computer->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Performance Options->Virtual Memory Settings
Click "change".

You'll help speed up the system and cut drive fragmentation by setting a fixed size for the swap file. Instead of using the 768MB-1536MB (or whatever the default is for your's), just set the min/max to the same value. I have 512MG RAM, and use a page file of 1536MB (I just used the high value of the default size range).

Works great!

Dear CignaXI,
Hi.Normally the swap file size should be set to 2.5 times the physical memory.Also set the min/max to same to avoid excess defragmentation.
You have the option in the same window to select the drive where the pagefile.sys resides.
See ya later,

I'm not so sure the "2.5x" rule really applies any more. I'd say up to 512MG Ram, yes. Beyond that, no. With 1GB of RAM, swap file use will be rare and 2.5GB is alot of disc space to waste. With 1GB, I'd use a 1GB swap file max; with 1.5GB, 768MB; with 2GB and up 512MB.

Just my $0.02...

And I still hate you avatar pranav81 :)

Dear BurninMan921,
Hi.I too agree with you.That "rule" can be only followed to 512MB or 786MB at the max.After that it will surely result in disc space wasted.By the way I know a dude in my residential society who has 1 GB of RAM and has Windows 2000 SP4,he has disabled virtual memory and is really happy.
About my avatar,I love it. :wink: By the way I owe a lot to Microsoft and love the company despite it's....well......I cant place the suitable word,I am sure you will understand what I want to say....Just tolerate it for a few more days. :wink:
See ya guys later,

Thanks for your replies, I was left without internet service so I couln't reply earlier. I just wanted to changed it form one physical disck to another. Do to some reasons not worth mention (because the story is too long) I had to install WinXP on my WD 20GB HD and use my WD 120GBSE as a secondary HD. The performance of the computer was not too satisfactory and I wanted to change the pagefile to the 120GB HD to see if I could get any performance gain. I'll keep you inform and again thangs for your replies and extra tips!
