Princo or Optodisc??

Postby dolphinius_rex on Sun Feb 29, 2004 3:56 pm

hypothetically speaking, which would you prefer to see the market flooded with? Princo DVD-Rs, or Optodisc DVD-Rs? Assume both are 4x DVD-Rs, branded or non-branded. Which do you think is higher quality? Why?

And yes, I am not giving you any other options for a reason, please pick one or the other

have had no experience with Optodisc Dvd media but have had experience with Optodisc cd-r's and never had a problem. On the other hand I have used Princo brand cd-r's and they suck.I'm assuming the Dvd media is on par with the cd's.

I've really only had experience with the 2x versions of both, and the Optodisc had quite a bit better quality.
If anyone likes I can post a speed test of Princo 2x versus Optodisc 2x on one of my drives.

For me is Optodisc too. I've ner used them but i've used Princo 4x and i can tell that anything is bether then Princo. By other words, there is nothing worst then Princo.

Well I've only used a few Princo DVD-Rs, and they werent bad. Also, the reason I would want the market flooded with Princo is so that this will force the other brands to lower DVD prices even more!!

That's a good point. Having someone like Princo in the market is always a good thing as it forces the price of other media down.

As to the "none worse than Princo" thing, there are worse ;) Vanguards are pretty evil for a start (although to be fair I did get a bad batch, then couldn't get any more so the guy replaced them with Riteks :))

Optodisc is the ONLY brand of DVD-R that my old Panasonic
DVD-R/DVD-RAM combo drive couldn't write to properly.
It might have been a drive issue...

I did read a claim by a merchant, so take it with a grain of salt, that the new Princo 4X DVD-R were dramatically improved over earlier versions.
I don't know how true it is.

In any case, TDK, Memorex, HP, Verbatim and Fuji are the only brands I have used for some time, due to their balance of good quality with good prices thanks to Hot Deals at the major retailers here in the US.
