Problem with dvd player, burner, or media?!

My Apex AD-1110 doesn't play burned dvds that I have made on my NEC 16x dvd-/+r burner. The issue is a burned dvd that my friend makes and lets me borrow plays great on my apex and we both use the same media (sony 8x dvd-r and memorex 8x dvd-r). With this being said it appears that my player and the media couldn't be the issue. Does anyone have any idea why the dvds I burn don't play on my apex but the burned dvds I get from my friend do (again, we use the same media)? I'm not sure what brand of dvd burner he has but I know it is also 16x dvd -/+ r. Thanks!

Perhaps you are not using the correct settings in your burning software. I know that I used to burn my DVD's with the UDF/ISO setting in Nero 5, but when I upgraded to Nero 6 the old settings were putting out DVD's with very low compatibility. I now use the DVD Video setting in Nero 6 and you just dump all your VOB's in the VIDEO_TS folder that is created, easy as pie and high compatibility .

Both Sony and Memorex use different suppliers for their 8x media. It may be different from your friend's even if sold in the same package.
