problem with my modem......

Postby kpassman on Sun Mar 09, 2003 5:10 pm

hi guys, i recently got the hi-val modem that was offered at officemax a couple of weeks back for free. $15 - $15 rebate. the modem works fine went i'm able to get online but my problem is that sometimes the computer won't recognize it.

It's a pci modem. sometimes when i boot up, it isn't listed on the pci devices and sometimes it is. when it isn't listed and i go to windows and run diags, it says that it couldn't open the port.

andy help would be greatly appreciated!

When BIOS lists it, remeber its IRQ number and try to set it manually in BIOS.

It's recommended to have the BIOS up to date - check for recent updates on the board manufacturer's site.

Put the modem into a different PCI slot. Maybe it's conflicting with another PCI card...

thanks for your help!!

currently the modem is under COM 3. I don't quite get what com3. com1 and 2 are listed under device manager along with lpt 1 but I can't find any info regarding com 3. also, this wouldn't be a faulty modem right???

oh yeah, I'm using windows me. How would I change which com port my modem is using??
