Problems in Video CD encoding.

Postby pranav81 on Sat Sep 13, 2003 1:09 am

Dear all,
Hi.I have latest Nero 5.5.10.50 installed on my Windows XP SP1 box.The problem is that whenever I burn a video CD using Nero and when the file to be burned is not Video CD compliant then Nero asks me if I want to re-encode the file.I click yes to re-encode the file. When I play the newly burned VCD I see that there is no synchronisation in audio and video that is played,i.e.,the audio is heard first and then actual video is seen.
This problem occurs only when the files are re-encoded,else if the files are VCD compliant, they are burned fine.
So,is there any solution to this problem?
Waiting for some posts,

Don't let Nero re-encode your video,if you are making a VCD that is out of spec.(XVCD) then uncheck the option in Preferences to check for compliance.

Does your DVD/VCD player support XVCD?Burn software checks a video file for these VCD specs:MPEG-1,1150kbps CBR video,352x288(240 NTSC),224kbps audio and the VCD flag(bitsetting).Out of those listed specs.the VCD flag is the most important because it allows PBC.
I suggest using TMPGEnc to encode your video.

Yes to both of your questions(MPEG-2 encoding is a 30 day trial).

Good luck

Pranav,

I've just been making some backup SVCDs (I don't have a DVD burner yet) of my grandson's movie DVDs before he (3 years old) destroys any more of them. Hopefully, this may help.

I am using DVD X Copy Plus which includes SmartRipper, DVDx (encode/decode) and PowerCDR (burning). After the decode/encode process, I initially burned with Nero 6 as I am familiar with it. I got a comment that the DVDx out put files were not MPEG-2 compliant and that it would use some MPEG-2..... plug-in. The burning process (with Nero) took about 1.5 hours per CD but worked, the SVDs looked great when played. Second time bye, I decided to try the included PowerCD as a test. I received no comment about the input files and the burn took about 15 minutes. Again, the SVDs looked beautiful on playback. One other note, I ignored some of the tips about burning slowly, 4x or 8x, and just let 'er go at 48x.

Good luck,
Slim

Hi,
can you guys tell me,how should I encode *.mpg files when writing in
VCD format,I mean NTSC or PAL.Which one is better.I see that files of
both format are played by all the VCD players that I have seen.

Hi pravnav81,
As you stated PAL VCD players can play NTSC VCD's but since you live in a PAL country I would stick to PAL because the vertical resolution is a bit better(288 vs. 240).
