Prodisc 8x dvd+r question

Postby hydrogen on Wed Jun 23, 2004 5:44 am

How good is this Prodisc 8x dvd+r
http://www.supermediastore.com/prodisc-8x-dvdr.html

I have a Pioneer A07 and a Lite On 851s drive. Will it burn good in both drives?

Does anyone have any scans?

Also, is this 4x Prodisc dvd+r media any good?

Prodisc is pretty good media.
I've had very good experience with the 4X DVD+R (ProdiscR02). The same discs displayed in your 2nd link.

The Prodisc 8X DVD+R (ProdiscR03) should also be pretty good media.
However, Jamos over at cdfreaks had some problems with ProdiscR03

i cannot say for a07 because i traded my 107d & 812 for 712a, but 8x prodisk +r was working very well with 712a though they finish is shinning silver top which is pretty bad for finger prints & dusts; so far i have not seen any other finish

Prodisc 8x DVD+R is very cheap for 8x DVD+R. They must be struggling hard to break into the market domonated by Ritek and CMC.

I just ordered some of the R02 Prodiscs. I'll test them on my 451S@851S (using GSC2) when they come in. Dunno how well this will correlate to how the R03 will burn on a 851S, but I thought that I'd let you know in case you're interested.

I'm using the Prodisc R02 discs right now. I've burned one spindle so far and have had excellent results in both an 811S (HS0Q) and 851S (GSC2).

Cool. I'd be curious to see the results, esp. the GSC2 ones. :) Seems like everyone in the CDF LiteOn forum is playing with Ricohs, so I don't have much of anything to compare my results (whenever I get them) with.

I can't post the pic of the scan here, but the stats from Nero's CD/DVD Speed (scanned at 4x in the 851S with GSC2) are:

[Edit] This disc was burned in the 811S with HS0Q Omnipatched:
Disk ID: Prodisc R02
Quality Score: 90
PI Errors
Average: 6.80
Maximum: 17
Total: 79615

PI Failures
Average: 0.06
Maximum: 3
Total: 1003

Burned in 851S with code's GSC2 firmware:
Disk ID: Prodisc R02
Quality Score: 89
PI Errors
Average: 8.04
Maximum: 23
Total: 98786

PI Failures
Average: 0.17
Maximum: 3
Total: 3627

Thank you :)

Those scans look really good. If you get any Prodisc 8x media, could you post some scans?

I hope the 8x media performs as good as the 4x media burned at 8x.

Don't plan on getting any Prodiscs R03s for a while. I've heard people say conflicting things about R03. Some say that it burns as well as R02, some say that it doesn't burn as well as R02. I didn't want to take a risk, so I just grabbed some R02s instead. If you're in the US, you can get them the R02 Prodiscs from ACCA/Rima (where I got them) for only 48 cents per disc (100 spindle) or 60 cents per disc (50).

Thank you for the information. It sounds like the best bet is just to buy the 4x ones. Thank you for telling me where to buy them from.

What do you think about Prodisc or Optodisc 4x dvd-rs? If you have used any, where did you get them from?

I never know exactly which kind to buy. Is it ok to buy the silver topped ones? I worry about finger prints and scratches.

What type do you recommend for Prodisc and Optodisc 4x dvd-r?

Thank you.

Hmm, lacking in quality? That might be why Meritline has them on sale for the holiday. :)

Bah. Meritline? As I said, ACCA/Rima has the good stuff (the R02) for less money and they're actually somewhat trustworthy. ;)
