Regarding the compatibility of copied/written DVD format.

Postby rama72 on Mon May 05, 2003 11:54 am

Hi,
I would like to bring it to your notice that the DVDs written and copied with SONY-DRU500A (through Nero/RecordNow DX) are not readable by the same PC after the wrtting process. Can any one help me to solve this problem? Should I need to install any software or codecs for the DVD-writting inorder to avoid this problem? Thnx Awaiting your reply.
with regards,
rama.

What brand and speed of media are you using? What speed are you actually writing at?

Regarding the dvd media

Postby rama72 on Tue May 06, 2003 12:58 am

hi,
I'm using the following for the DVD copying:
1)DVD media from Benq & Memorex.
2)DVD writer: Sony DRU-500A.
3)Software: Nero(5.5.10.28)/ Recordnow DX.
What should I have to use(DVD Media), compatible with Windows XP, to be playable discs after copying? Is there any other modification, should I have to do with Software? I mean about the preferences and options of the recording mode? kindly advise me to avoid the DVD copy which is not compatible with windows.Thnx, Awaiting your reply.
with regards,
rama.

I should have asked before; what firmware does your drive have (Nero will tell you in the recorder properties), and what are you burning on your discs (data, DVD-Video, etc)? Are you copying existing DVD's, or are you making your own?

The software you have should be fine. Are you reading your discs back in the DRU-500A, or are you playing the discs back in another drive?

I'm sorry I'm asking so many questions, but the answers will help us figure out the solution if we can. Thanks for answering my last questions so thoroughly! :D

Hi,
I would like to answer your questions:
1)what firmware does your drive have (Nero will tell you in the recorder properties): SONY DRU500A 1.0e.
2) what are you burning on your discs (data, DVD-Video, etc)? : Yes I'm burning DVD-Video.
3)Are you copying existing DVD's, or are you making your own? : I'm copying the existing DVDs by ripping and splitting it with IFO Edit and then burning it.
4)Are you reading your discs back in the DRU-500A, or are you playing the discs back in another drive? : No it's not readable in any drive after copying. It shows me that the windows cannot detect the DVD disc and also it shows me that windows cannot detect the format.

Lastly I want ask you one question regarding the DVD burning:
Whether we have to add both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders (which I used to do) for burning or else we have to add only the contents of the folders directly for burning? I'm asking this question bcz when I use nero, it's directing me to add the folder contents directly but not the folder itself.
So advise me about the perferable way.
Thnx, Awaiting your reply.
with regards,
rama.

Maybe you need to update your firmware. Also, could you try burning a data DVD, just to see if it works?

I'm sorry; I don't know whether you need the AUDIO_TS or VIDEO_TS folders or not. I'm sure that someone else does, though.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, allow me to suggest that you also check out www.dvdrhelp.com if you haven't already done so. It is a treasure house of information about recording video on optical discs.

I have been led to believe that, for greater compatibility, a DVD video should have both an AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder with all the video residing in the VIDEO_TS folder. They work in all my home players, so far :D.

Older versions of Nero can be very temperamental with compatibility. Until I upgraded to the latest version, often DVD-Video discs produced with Nero would only work on my Sony DVD Player. On the Nintaus, Mustek, PS2, Xbox and Yamada, and a friend's Philips and Pioneer players, they'd have faults.

Upgrading to the newest version sorted all this out.

I'd be inclined to completely remove your installation of Nero (and remove the directory to make sure it's totally gone) and install the very latest version from scratch.
