Has anyone tried them yet?

And yes, I know it says the rated speed is 2.4x on that page.

Verbatim isn't the only one was known for some days to some european people, because the RICOH 8x Dual Layer +R made by Ritek can be found on the european market allready. That is if you search well.

Still there is a huge difference between MKM and Ricoh/Riteks codes. Riteks and Ricohs are provisional approved not a full approval.
Which means some minor points were outside specification.
MKM still has at this time the only 8x dual layer +R disc with full Philips approval.

Taken from Philips licensing.

(s) DVD+R Part 2, Dual Layer, 8.5Gbytes speed 8x "Provisional Approval"
1. MID code RICOHJPN type D01
Produced by Ricoh Company, Ltd.
2. MID code RITEK type S04
Produced by Ritek Corporation

Also with 8x we might see more codes soon on the market and I think that at least CMC will try to get Philips approval for there 8x dual layer disc's as well.

It will probally take some weeks still befor we probally can get this media.

Lets hope it's way better then the D01 2.4 junk they put out. Most of my drives cant make a working anything with the ones I picked up on sale last week. The Verbatims I got work fine even at 8x even though they only state 2.4 speed, with a sticker that says approved for high speed burning also tacked on the box.
