Postby liteonrules on Thu Apr 22, 2004 9:06 am

i know everyone is going to say that GO4 is better than GO3 but i wanted to ask how much better?
i can get a 100 pack of the RITEK GO3 for $66.00 or G04 for $72.00
IS it worth it that much to pay an extra $6.00

NEC 3500AG for $47 4/05
NEC 3540 for $35 9/05

I KNEW THAT BUT I DID NOT KNOW THAT THE G03 OR G04 RITEK WERE BOTH DVD-R AND NOT DVD+R BUT THAT'S OK I STILL LIKE TO KNOW IF THE G04 IS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY THAN THE G03 AND HOW MUCH BETTER IS THE GO4 OVER THE G03

With a hacked firmware, the G03 can be written at 4x. It has been done. It's 4x quality is comparable with the 4x quality of the G04.

*HOWEVER*, note that Riteks are known for their variable quality! Just because some people have had success burning G03 at 4x doesn't mean that all people will, because Ritek quality varies from batch to batch. (The same applies to the G04.)

If I were you, I'd ditch Ritek until they can get their shitty act together. Otherwise, I will say that based on what I have seen, the G03 (with hacked firmware) can perform as well as the G04. But your results may vary, because Ritek may vary.

And hey, there's no need to scream, bub. Lower-case sentences can be interpreted by my inferior brain just fine, thanks.

Umm, I have yet to see a single drive burn Ritek G03 media at 4x. 6x and 8x yes, but not 4x. Why? because all the hacking is done for 6x and 8x speeds, and not 4x. No one thinks about hacking so things can be burned at 4x

As for burning quality, the Ritek G03s burn about as well at 6x as Ritek G04s do at 8x. Of course (as stated previously) this is not taking into account the incredible variance in quality that you will find in Ritek.

I also suggest dropping Ritek as a regular media type, but hey, that's me... and I'm pissed off at Ritek

The biggest mis-conception about Ritek is that all G03 is the same, and all G04 is the same. They are not. Ritek makes OEM media to the buyer's specs. The G04 you get from one place may be very different from the G04 you get somewhere else. And then there's over-prints and unprinted OEM, bulk, etc., etc., etc.

Because you know something confidential? Or because Ritek might see it as slander?

Both

But it's not life threatening or anything. Look if the media is good for you, and at a price you find acceptable, then by all means keep buying it. Just keep in mind that the variance in DVDR quality is quite large, and what you get one batch is not always what you will get on the next batch, and what you get from one store almost certainly is not what you will get from another store. Most of the things I know about have to do with this issue, and a few others that have to do with the corporate end of things.

*nods* As someone who has bought 2 batches of Ritek, I, too, have come to the conclusion that Ritek doesn't live up to its hype.

The worst Ritek's available are the overprints and no name brand OEM jobs. That's where Ritek pawns off their really low grade stuff usually.
