Samsung SW-252B only writes at 40x........

Postby patwestlake on Mon Sep 22, 2003 5:53 pm

Evening all,

Can someone enlighten me as to what is limiting my 52x drive to 40x writing? I've run Nero Info and also the speed test, and each confirms the other - it flat lines at 40x when writing.

Nero 5.5.10.50
Firmware R702
DMA set to "on"
XP Pro
ShowSingleRecorderSpeed Dword=1
48x media (a variety tried)

No other issues

Cheers, Pat

It is almost certainly a media problem. Your drive is limiting the speed to 40x because it doesn't think that the discs are good enough to be written to at 48x or 52x. I'd recommend that you try some Fuji media (if you can find the Fuji discs that are made in Japan). BTW, what brands of discs have you already tried?

Thanks for the speedy reply. I've only tried a couple of >40x media types;

Traxdata and Bulq-pak Grade A (both 48x rated)

I'd suggest trying some other media. Some media (especially the low-cost media) isn't really capable of being written at high speeds, or at least the drive doesn't think so. For example, one of my drives won't write Philips 48x media faster than 40x, and Imation 32x is limited to 24x.
