Samsung SH-S182D Faulty ?

Hi everybody,

Need some advice. The above burner only wants to write at 1.4x
whichever make of dvd disc i use ,will not write at 8x .
using 16x discs .
Never had a problem until now , is the burner faulty.
re-installed nero , my burning program ,no difference.
It won,t write any faster.

Did your DMA mode for that drive get changed to PIO mode maybe? If it did it can suddenly slow way down till you reset it. You can check it in XP under device manager in the IDE controllers section. I have one of those drives, don't really like it much but it does work and hasn't dropped speed like that on me yet.
