Scratched & Blemished DVD repair

Postby Rich on Tue Sep 14, 2004 10:24 pm

Hi Everybody,

I'm considering one of those repair kits to fix scratches on CDs and DVDs.

Are there any paticular type or brand I should seek or stay away from?

How well do they work?

Thankx,

Replace the discs if they are readable. Such "fix" kits should only be used to try to make an unreadable disc readable again. Often, a disc that is unreadable in one reader can be read in a different reader too.
Current drives running here: ND-2500A, ND-3500A, ND-3520A,
LTR-52327S, SOHW-1633S, SOHR-52A8S

Thanks for the reply.

I just did some searching and am going to try the Memorex OptiFix Pro. It's only 30 bucks at Compuzoid. I've got a couple 2-3-4 disks to try to fix. One disk that I liked but didn't really care for I went extreme because pearl drops wouldn't get the scratch out. I used 1200 grit sand paper and I think that nearly did it. From what I've read if I took Turtle Wax to it it may read. But, this memorex jobber looks real cool so I'll give it a shot.

Just use some glass cleaner on the bottom of the disc and wipe with a paper towel from the inside to the outside, *NEVER* in a circular motion. That generally works fine for me. I've had to do it a few times with Netflix Rental DVD's as before cleaning it, they just wouldn't play properly.
