slow Bootup with LG GCE-8320B in Win2k

Postby Oozaru on Thu Dec 26, 2002 4:46 pm

Hi,

last week i got a LG GCE-8320B (Slave, secondary) and burns without problems.
But...
Win2k SP3 needs approximatly 59 seconds to notice that the GCE can work in DMA-Mode :(.
if I deactivate the option "DMA, if available" (=> start with PIO) the bootup takes 59sec less than with DMA!
the DVD-Rom (another LG) on primary Slave just needs 2 seconds to check that its UDMA.

taking the RW as primary Slave and DVD as secondary Slave => no change!
RW alone on Slave => no change!
update to newest firmware => no change!
'update' to GCE-8400B => no change!
biosupdate => no change!

can i force win2k manually (in registry or so) to take 'DMA' for the RW, so the automatic search ("DMA, if available") won't longer waste my time.

have an VIA-Board which supports UDMA133 and newest 4in1-drivers.

ps. the bios runs it in PIO 4

i'm not sure this will help, but give it a try: uninstall the secondary IDE channel.
for help to do this, check out the FAQ:

hi again,

found another problem...
With Nero CD Speed i got an average Speed of 18.97x, CLV and 100% CPU-Usage.
Win2k tells me its DMA!

the same results in PIO-Mode.

is my drive defect? :(

It may tell you DMA, but it is evidently actually functioning in PIO mode.

On my W2K box I've had better luck with Microsoft's VIA Bus Master IDE Controller driver (version 5.0.2195.5438) than with VIA's 4-in-1 drivers. Try switching your IDE driver to the Microsoft supplied driver and see if that helps.
