Sony DRU -710A firmware updates questions/help!

Postby btiger on Wed Dec 15, 2004 9:11 pm

Got my 1st writer a few days ago with firmware BY01 and am just wondering if everything is working fine, do I really need to update the firmware to BYX2? (since I am not going to burn dual layer discs anytime soon and I also don't use DVD R- format discs).

For future references, is there anyway to back up my current firmware before updating the latest firmware? (just in case, or there is no what so ever downside with updating the latest firmware as = "you could NOT go wrong")?

On Sony's Europe site, they have the latest firmware by02, and here in N.A. the latest is BYX2, do I need to update to by02 first then BYX2 or can I simply go from my current BY01 straight to BYX2?

Thanks for your help/feedback in advance. (I know it's long but I will only ask once...

BYX2 comes with some notable improvements, namely increasing of DVD-R burning speed to 12x and DVD+R Dual Layer to 4x. Also 8x DVD-R burning speed has been lowered. If you ever need to go back to the old firmware, visit http://codeguys.rpc1.org to obtain it. You can update straight from your current firmware to BYX2.
