Stock problems with 4x DVD-RWs

Postby dolphinius_rex on Tue Oct 25, 2005 4:58 pm

I didn't expect this, but it seems that there is a shortage of quality mid level 4x DVD-RWs. Ritek has now discontinued support for 4x DVD-RWs in favour of mass production of their 6x DVD-RWs, and Optodisc in a move almost exactly opposite has discontinued production of their 4x DVD-RWs in order to focus on the high demand for their 2x DVD-RWs from large OEM orders! :o

The only other players in this field are Prodisc and CMC really... and Prodisc doesn't seem to make a lot of RWs (I've never actually seen even 1!!), and CMC DVD-RWs are ALMOST as rare. I even have a hard time getting Verbatim 4x DVD-RWs :o

Hello!

In Germany you can get some different DVD-RW 4x without problems, but it´s true that not every shop has some.

DVD+RW 4x is no problem, you can get it almost everywhere.

It´s a bigger problem here to get 6x and 8x RWs.
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

Well, I was really talking on a whole sale level.... once these shops run out of stock, they'll be hard pressed to find more...

Well.... I'm not sure it's EVERY drive... but many drives at least cannot read 6x and 8x DVDRWs.

Which is why Ritek and Optodisc stopping DVD-RW production is such a big deal.... (but at least Optodisc is making 2x DVD-RWs, which are still compatible... if you don't mind waiting 30min per burn :o )

Hello!

TDK Europe said not long time ago, that they will produce furthermore DVD-RW 1x and +RW 2,4x for DVD-Recorders.

But did TDK produce themself?
