Suggestions for new CD/DVD writer

Postby Dsp121 on Tue Dec 30, 2025 4:00 am

Hello,

I am searching for a good new optical drive to burn CDr's and DVDr's, preferably internal. I am more interested in the CDr burning capability, and would like a drive that supports slow burning speeds like 4x with CLV to produce a uniform coloured burn on the disc (I had a Plextor PX-755 that stopped working). I mean I do not want a burn with different circular shades, which I think is the result of Z-CLV. Do we have any options today, as even finding an internal drive is getting difficult as far as I am seeing?

Thanks

There really hasn't been anything new in the past few years. Most of them are manufactured by Lite-On, Optiarc or LG and I think in most cases the slowest CD write speed is 16x.

That's what I found out. I was searching for older drives capable to go slower, but it is very difficult to find new old stock, especially at a reasonable price.

Try to get one of the LG drives that can rip 4k disks in case you ever decide to do 4k movies. If you get the right model they can rip the disks you own which is handy if you do Plex so you don't have to play the physical disk whenever you want to watch a movie from your network. Depending on the drive you should be able to pick the speed it burns at if you want to do that.
