Good news for those of you that invested in the now defunct HD DVD format. Warner has launched a new program that will let you trade in your HD DVD movies for the Blu-ray version.

Warner Home Video has launched a new program that will let HD DVD fans trade in their movies for the Blu-ray version. To do so, send in the cover art to Warner's processing center, pay a small $4.95 upgrade fee (as well as $6.95/$8.95 for shipping) and in 4-5 weeks, you'll receive the Blu-ray version of the same title. While you are limited to one copy of each movie and a total of 25 titles total per household, most people will probably be more than happy to rid themselves of the defunct format. Full details can be found at Red2Blu.com.

It will be interesting to see if some of the other HD DVD backers, like Paramount and Universal , do the same thing. I don't have any Warner HD DVDs left, but I still have some from them.

Well I have both formats and I wouldn't do that at all. My HD player works fine and should continue to work so what's the point of spending even more just to have the BD version of my same movie.
It almost seems like they all are chomping at the bit to rid the planet of any HD-DVD movies or players and also make that last little bit of profit from it's grave while they're at it.
I could also burn the movies to bd myself once blanks get a bit cheaper...
Now maybe some folks who have a Blu Ray player and movies only might do it with some of the uber cheap HD movies so they possibly could get the same movie cheaper then retail if that way pencils out for them.
