When Will We Star Seeing SATA Optical Drives ?

Postby studio1 on Fri Jan 30, 2004 3:14 pm

I've updated my mobo to a chipset that supports SATA, and my hard drives. I'm ready to get rid of those clunky parallel cables !

Probably not for a long time. Optical drives cannot begin to saturate the capacity of IDE cables. They don't even come close. Actually, SATA provides no real speed advantage when used with a 7200 RPM hard drive. From a performance standpoint, spending an extra $30 for a SATA hard drive gets you nothing.

Nope...no speed advantage. Just simpler cabeling, no master/slave BS, hot swapping, and better airflow.

Personally, I hate the regular IDE cables - I too want SerialATA opticals!

Besides, there isn't an IDE version of the Raptor :)
Soon to be proud user of Mandrake 10 (again!). SuSE 9 sucks!
