Burn baby burn!

Which CD-R's are the best?

Postby Wiseguy on Sat Nov 30, 2002 6:31 pm

I have a Liteon 24x Burner and would like to know which of the following media is the best?

I own the following:

1: PNY 12x=Ritck DT7
2: STI 24x=Princo DT8
3: Hi-Val 16x=Prodisc DT9
4: Khypermedia 48x=CMC DT6
5: Optimum 48x=CMC DT6
6: Precision 40x=Princo DT9
7: Prime Peripherals 16x=Gigastorge DT2

Which have the best track record? no errors!
Which is better for Audio?

Thanks,
John

Why not look at the media compatability thread for your answer? :)

Most of those CD-R's on your list are made by CMC, so they are somewhat decent if not all the same.

Taiyo Yuden. All Fuji Media and some Memorex's are made by Taiyo Yuden. Just look for "Made in Japan" on the label and you know your buying Taiyo Yuden Media.

Also look at this thread.

Come now, it's not that difficult once you locate your drive and refer to the key. Here is an example for your Lite-On 24X burner:

Code: Select all
Lite-On LTR-24102B......BenQ/AC 80min 32X.......................24x
Firmware: 5S5A..........HP/HM 80min 8X..........................24X
........................Imation/CMC 80min 24X...................24X

After the drive and firmware are listed, the first thing that appears is the brand name on the CD-R itself, three examples are shown: BenQ, HP, and Imation. After the slash is the manufacturer of the disc; according to the key AC stands for Acer, HM stands for Hitachi Maxell, and CMC stands for CMC Magnetics. The three examples I quoted above all work well in your drive, in fact, most of the discs listed for the Lite-On LTR-24102B will burn at full speed (24X). The only discs that did not perform well, or at least did not burn at full speed, are Verbatim, so stay away from them.

Thanks Guy!
I did find that post, I just didn't understand it.

I also didn't see anything about the Verbatim in the post.
What other CD-R's are made by Verbatim?

My "old" TDK 24/10/40B is a rebadged LiteON. I've never had problems with any media incl. CMC.

Wiz, I noticed that my drive was listed to have been successful with media that I've never used before! :o

That's not only the thing. Some Drives will not read certain CD-R's.
Also, what CD-R's will burn at 52x? :-?

Of course, just because you haven't used a certain kind of media doesn't mean it will fail in your drive. :)

The only 52x CDR I've seen was the CMC one I used to test out Nero CD Speed.
