Which Combo drive should I get?

Postby LegolasUK on Mon Dec 02, 2002 11:04 am

I've finally decided to get rid of my VERY old CD-RW drive (Phillips CDD 3610) and want to get a new drive that isnt too expensive. I only have space for a single drive and I thought the Combo drive sounds like a good idea. I've had a look at a few reviews and comments people have made about different combo drives and from what i've seen the 2 that I should decide between r the Toshiba SD-R1202 and the LG GCC-4320B.

I'm going to use the drive mainly for ripping audio CD's, watching DVD movies and storing files, dont need to copy games or anything like that.

Taking all this into account which of the 2 drives (or any other drives) do u recommend I get?

The LG GCC-4320B has better media compatability, from what I read, in terms of reading DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. If you want to read these types now or in the future, I would lean toward the LG.

The LG was the one I was more in favour of getting so I think I probably will decide to buy it instead of the Toshiba, thanks for the info :D

Anyone know if there r any new combo drives coming out any time soon? last thing I wanna do is get the LG only for a better drive to come out a few weeks later hehe :P

Samsung has a 48/24/48/16 combo drive on the way.

I like the looks of the new Samsung as well. Hope we'll see a review soon.

Thanks Ian :D , do u know when that might be out and is it worth waiting for? Just one more thing, do u know anything about the BTC BCO 4016IM (40x12x40x/16X) combo drive? looking at the spec it's faster than the LG, saw them both on one site with the BTC being sold for £6 less.
