Will CDRLabs Review the A06?

Postby whoster69 on Wed Jul 16, 2003 11:02 am

I'm surprised there haven't been many reviews of this drive yet so I wanted to ask if CDRLabs.com is planning one.

Pioneer hasn't talked to us at all about reviewing it. Matter of fact, their PR goons don't talk to us much anyway.

We are planning on reviewing a few drives based on it. It just won't be a retail Pioneer.

Thanks for the update. Regarding the drives based on it, will that be within the next week or two or are we looking at more than a month down the road.

Thanks again.

More like a month. None have showed up. Not to mention, I still need to work on the reviews for the Sony, TDK and Verb drives first.

Pioneer's loss!

CDRLabs and your reviews generate a decent amount of sales and publicity.

If I were in charge of PR/Marketing at Pioneer (or any other such manufacturer), I would be more aware of sites like this and their impact on sales, and hence excited about getting some almost free press.

Their drives are usually good, and the A06 doesn't seem to be an exception, so they don't have much to lose, but a lot to gain...

My 2 cents.

I got to say that I've been looking, for a while now, for a good review on the A06 or 106 and so far the only thing I got was a 1 or 2 pages of a general review. Nothing fancy or deep...

For me it's sad but I have hopes that by the end of the summer (this is probably when I'm goanna buy my drive) there’ll be some reviews...

Until then I got to decide, either to go with 106 or 105. I putted aside the NEC and Sony options, because NEC has media compatibility problem (overcomed by Harrie) and Sony has a price premium that I just don't think it's worth it. So that leaves Pioneer...

I'll leave a question for reflection and if possible answered.

Is the A06 as good as the A05 (forgetting formats issues)?

Thanks for the info. Too bad Pioneer isn't more on the ball with this one. I really like my drive and would like to see it put through its paces by someone familiar with other drives...

Believe it or not, some people haven't realized that the web is here to stay. With the life of a product being 6-12 months (or less), waiting 3 months for a magazine to publish a review really isn't really worth it. A website on the other hand has no lag due to printing, etc.

When Pioneer announced the A05, I talked to Pioneer about doing a review of it. Their response was that they would have some test units at some convention (don't remember which). If I would attend it, they could schedule me 20 minutes (!!??!!) where I could run some tests for my review. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

That's Pioneer's PR people though. Their product manager is a good guy. He's done what he could for us in the past.

Wow. You're right Ian. It is too bad that many people don't understand this and end up not helping their products/companies because of it.

Thanks for the info...
