Win XP List it as a Generic CDRW Drive ?

Postby HeartBurn on Mon Dec 16, 2002 2:12 pm

"Windows XP will tell you what the make and model of the DVD-ROM drive is that's installed in the computer. But, it won't properly ID the CD/RW drive. It just says "Generic CD/RW drive", or similar. "

I just copied this from somewhere else and can't help but wonder what would cause it. He is using a HP Pavilion computer. Has anyone ran across this problem before? Running "XP Compatible Hardware" doesn't fix the problem either. How is he going to upgrade his firmware is the big question. Thanks

Question(s)
- What type of CD-RW drive do you have?
- Have any Service Packs or Hotfixes been installed for Windows XP?

I have not seen the above on any instances of Windows XP (Home / Professional) to this point.
