Wired's List Of 50 Best Robots

Postby Ian on Wed Dec 28, 2005 8:33 pm

I dunno if I'd count some of these as robots (Ex: HAL 9000) but the list is interesting.

The #1 robot is pretty lame IMO. At least R2-D2 and Optimus Prime made it on the list. :D

I saw only one fem-bot, and Where is Rosie from the Jetsons?

In spanish Rosie was translated as Robotina a more hilarious name, I think.
Ciao,

Yeah, I was going to mention that. They list Astro Boy (????) but not K-9. [-X There's also one or two more I thought up yesterday, but I can't remember them now.

<edit>
Ok, here's a few:

Mervin (Hitchhiker's GuideTo The Galaxy),
Kryton (Red Dwarf),
Bender (Futurama),
Cylons (Battlestar Galactica),
Data / Lore / B4 (etc) (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
(although they're androids not robots)

(and there's probably alot more)...

as for K9, well, Americans, what do they know of good Sci-Fi ?

omitting Marvin from that list might very well be the stupidest (is there such a word?) omission. #-o

i didn't know the cylons were robots!

Bender (Futurama),

An outrage that he didnt make the list!!!

Not sure if he would actually qualify or not, but what about Voltron?

Bender would be on the 50 most notorious robots..

Was Voltron truly a robot though? People had to pilot him.
