FUJI 16x DVD-R

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Postby RJW on Wed Oct 19, 2005 1:13 pm

I personally put them both in the categorie. Not trusworthy (to much reports about problematic batches and to much bad test results !) However In case of Prodisc there is a exception the Prodisc manufacturerd media that is sold as verbatim/Mitsubishi and has MKM code and quality controle.

dolphinius_rex wrote:Optodisc's 4x DVD-Rs weren't that great... their 4x DVD+Rs become one of the best though (check some C't test results).

Yeah okay results in C't test but on the other hand I also have I think 3 or more other tests were 4x Optodisc +R media scores quite bad.
As for RWs, they're considered to be one of the best as well. Both Maxell and Mitsui use them for RWs

Mitsui isn't in the media business any more ? You mean MAM a companny who fakes codes. So much if the write strategy doesn't match and the error levels go sky high. Yeah that's a good one for claimeing quality.
I agree that Optodisc rewritables are good but I wouldn't say that there one of the best. Unless your best list is really long. ;-)

Their DVD-RAM is also top notch, being that they're the only company qualified to manufacture DVD-RAM media for Maxell (who is considered THE number one DVD-RAM manufacturer!!).

Since when is Maxell number one DVD-RAM manufacturer ?? and based on what ? (Maybe Maxells own propaganda ?)

Regarding my experiences with Prodisc.... just because I was personally burned by their low grade CD-Rs with lame ass life spans, not to mention subpar CD-RWs that died after 3 burns on average (sometimes could be stretched to 5 burns...)... that doens't mean I don't keep up with current Prodisc media. I've been completely unimpressed with PRODISCF01 and FUJIFILM03 made by Prodisc, MCC02RG20 and PRODISCS04 were "ok". PRODISCR03 was usually good for me (although I've read about others having problems on it frequently, so I tread carefully with it). PRODISCF02 and PRODISCS05 seem to be limited in support currently. Newer Prodisc 16x DVD+Rs don't seem quite as good as their 8x DVD+Rs unfortunately.

At this moment 16x DVD+R can't be judged fair when compared to 8x DVD+R's because of limited support and harder conditions.

Hello!

I thought Panasonic is DVD-RAM-maker Nr. 1?

I think RJW is right, you can´t compare the 8x with 16x-media. The highly recommended Benq 1640 have it´s problems when writing 16x-media.

About Fujifilm03:

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic. ... c&&start=0

Now I look at some media to find out who manufacture Fujifilm03.

Here are 3 pics. The serial on the Philips-branded Fujifilm03 looks more like the serial at the Platinum Ritek G05, not like the Fuji ProdiscF01.

Now I read somewhere that newer Fujifilm03 are made in India, so it´s from MBIL.

And the same for Ricohjpn02, older batches made in Taiwan from Ritek, newer are from India

This Philips FUJIFILM03 is made by Ritek usseing FUJI Dye and specifications.
However incase of PHilips also a made by MBIL version exists.
How is the quality of the Philips disc compared to the Prodisc(FUJI) manufactured disc ?
So far the results I've seen suggest that RItek version is a bit better.

Ricoh 8x +Rmedia can be MBIL& Ritek currently.16x +R only Ritek makes them at this time. Dual layer Ricoh is a ritek exclusive (at least for some months still.). All ricoh -R media is made by CMC with CMC codes.

Not tried yet, because I read the Benq have problems with some types of DVD-R

Well, the BenQ DW1620 had problems with all Prodisc made DVD-Rs (regardless of code it seems), but the DW1640 seems ok with them.
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

My Benq 1640 did a bit better with F01, but overall poor performance from Benq.

Saw much better results for Fujifilm03 and F01, especially from the old LG 4163 :

Overall, I´m not impressed with the DVD-R-performance from Benq 1640, when not using highest quality TY or MCC

Is that a Ritek or a MBIL FUJIFILM03. It should be one of these 2 seeing it is Philips but that's it.

I bet you that Europeans would think that is "stupid" !

As you know, I'm here in the US and I generally prefer Prodisc over Optodisc media, even though I have the "A" grade Optodisc media.
PRODISCR03 -> very good results across many drives
OPTODISCOR8 -> not so good results across all drives, good on some drives

PRODISCF01 -> very good results on some drives, crap on others
OPTODISCR08 -> decent results on some drives, crap on others

OPTODISCOR16 -> not so good results so far
PRODISCR04 -> decent, better than Optodisc 16x +R in my experience

OPTODISC RW media -> decent, but I prefer MKM or RICOH

Geez, I can't believe this thread (Fuji 16x DVD-R) turned into another discussion about Optodisc and Prodisc.

Hello!

Have some Ricoh DVD-R 8x with Fujifilm03-Code.

This is readable:

EK083A 0046

Any ideas who made it?
