Since upgrading to windows XP home I can't install anything from my cd-rw. When I try I get the error " "is not a win32 application. Autoplay doesnt work either. Any suggestions would be great!

Remove the IDE controller in device manager and reboot, see if that helps.

Well you've got some kind of corruption in the drivers or software, beats me. You might look around in event viewer to see if there's any clues.

Event viewer shows hundreds of errors. They are all event 11 (The driver detected a controller error on \device\cdRom0) Microsoft support says there is no more info on these errors

Well we can assume that since it was all working prior to your "upgrade", that the hardware is OK. Did you do an upgrade install over Win98? If so, you need to wipe the HD and start fresh. You can still do this with the upgrade version of XP, as long as you have a Win98 CD around to insert when prompted. This install of XP is FUBAR and needs to be re-done, which is often the case with upgrade installs.
Backup everything and start over.

Overwriting OS over OS is easiest way to mess up everything. I'm yet to see anyone doing this and being content with the results. If you cant format, make a boot floppy with smartdrv and copy deltree to it. Boot from floppy, deltree both windows and Progra~1 (Program Files)directories and do a fresh installation. Make sure you backup necessary stuff from those dirs first.

Cheers.
