My drive disappeared for one reboot. I unplugged it and plugged it back up! That was under the old FW.

I have the same disks plus I have Maxell DVD-R (8X) and so far they all burn at 8X rather than 16X with 1616 f/w. So the only alternative is to test the drive with 1616 f/w with 16X disk which in my idea is not worthed since my NEC 3500 burns Maxell DVD-R (8X) at 16X withot any problem.

I thought I should make a comparison in reading speed (ripping) between AOpen 1608@1616 with stock f/w and NEC3500 with mod f/w L/D 2.TD using DVD-Video (protected S/L disk), and the following results show AOPen 1616 with stock f/w is faster than NEC 3500 with mod f/w and RipLock removed in ripping the same disk.

OK, I just converted the AOpen 1608@1616 with f/w100 back to 1608 f/w 108 then using downloaded 1616 f/w 101a and flashed back to 1616 this time with f/w 101a (bata) then I using TSK DVD+R (4X) made in TAIWAN and burn with following result. Note: The 1616 with new f/w 101a still incapable to burn the disk over its rated speed.

8 minute burn with a slow down at the end! I am trying a 8x burn with Maxell002.

Ian, Tcas, Ripit, Scour, Italianjob,etc!

I am having trouble getting the caption boxes in reauthor mode in Shrink backing up "The Passion". I have the box checked but they don't show when I play it! Now I do have two boxes checked=English+English with captions!

All;

Upgraded AOpen 1608@1616 directly from 101a to 102 without any problem. Burned Fuji DVD+R (8X) made in Japan, as any one can see the drive with this new f/w (102) burns the *X disk at 12X for the first time I have seen from AOpen drive. This is noticeable improvement on part of AOpen for this drive. The time for burning full disk (using CD Speed ) and 8X is below 9 minutes which is very good improvement from previous f/w.

Ripping D/L DVD Video (protected) AOpen1608@1616 using newest f/w 102, very negligible increase in ripping D/L.
