News of DVD Writers

I have a Benq 1620 using B7T9 and it averages around 1X for the quality scan. I've tried setting the speed to Maximum, 8X, and 4X, but the result is always the same. The speed always starts around .71X, and slowly creeps up to around 1.3X. I see others scanning around 8X. How can I get my drive to scan faster?

I've just replaced my Sony DRU-500A with a NEC ND-3520A (firmware 1.04). There is a link to a page that has a bunch of interesting tools to install in my 3520A.
Should I install the RPC1 and Rip Lock Patch now before selecting a region for my burner?
Does anyone know how this will affect DVD Decrypter?

All right...I've read the reviews. But, given the huge improvements to all three drives with the latest firmware, they're not all that helpful now :)

Boil it down: using high-quality media (TY, MCC), which drive will offer the best write quality at the media's rated speed. Speed is not really an issue.

I know the 1620 was considered the best for overall write quality for awhile, but ...

Just a quick question,
Is this a good burner if I wanted to use as a reader as well and to burn with my pioneer.
Just want to know if it has a speed lock restriction like many other DVD-Roms.
I know I can just get a DVD-Rom but this is only a few dollars more so if it is a fast reader it will be good to have a backup.

Does anyone have the BenQ version of this IO Magic drive? I do and for some reason the discs I burn won't play. I keep getting a "Check Region Code" error message on my Aiwa DVD player. I got mine at the Staples BF sale. Sometimes it won't even recognize its own burned disc.

I also have an Emprex 8x and an IO Magic 8x with 7 in 1 card reader (both BTC/Top G drives) ...

I have two BTC/Top G-built 8x dual format DVDRW drives.

The first one is an Emprex drive (1008-something) and the second is an IO Magic Dual Digital Storage 8x dual format DVDRW with 7-in-1 card reader. The IO Magic is a 1008IB.

Both drives initially was able to burn CDRs up to 40x. Now, both no longer burn or read CDs, regardless of whether they are audio, mp3, data, or software CDs. They still can ...

Hi I had a lite-on 167T and unlocked the speed restriction so it can read at max speed. When Burning to my pioneer at 8x it took approx 7 1/2 to 8 min. But my reader has now died. I am wanting to get a LG GDR8163B. Are these any good ?
Is there a lock on the speed read ?

Hello, everyone! I need to decide between buying a Pioneer DVR-108 and a DVR-109. A friend of mine has a 108 and is quite enthusiastic about it, but he knows nothing about the 109. He strongly advised me to come to this forum and ask for people's opinions as to which is better, the DVR-108 or DVR-109. Does anyone here have an opinion on the matter?
