I'm having difficulty finding this information, so hopefully someone here can help me out:

1. I've read that a DVD+R DL's 8.5GB capacity is "fully equal" to commerical DVD-Video DL discs. Is this true?

2. When people say "8.5 GB," do they mean 8.5 billion bytes, or 8.5 * 2^30 bytes? Is it even exactly 8.5, or is that a rounded figure?

3. Exactly how much user data does each layer of a +R ...

Plextor PX-716SA or the Plextor PX-716A is Serial Better ? Am I better of buying the serial drive or what which one is faster and is better write quality? :roll:

Hi I was wondering with money not being an option nor speed. What is the absolute Best DVD writer on the market for writting quality for the Ritek 8X G05 Disk. and also what is overall the best dvd writer on the market and disc for dvd qaulity. i need to know for backing up movies. Thank You

I just purchased the Sony DRU-710A and updated the Firmware to BY02. I also installed the OEM version of NERO that came with the burner.

The discs I burn play OK but I have a burning question. When I go to burn the disc, the only burn (write) speed I have is the speed of the disk (4x for 4x discs, 2x for 2x discs, etc). I can't slow the burner down to 1x should ...

i use this drive and nero 6 to burn dvds

it seems that it won't burn at 8X, 12X or 16X... the actual times are anywhere between 15-22 minutes which is far slower than my older 4x burner

the firmware i'm using is 1.18

i'm also using memorex 8x dvd r -

I was having some problems with a DVD burned in my Sony DRU-710A so I decided to burn exactly the same image in my new Plextor PX-716A. I have not tested how it plays yet but I was a little surprised at the scan results. This is when I decided an I needed some experts to comment on what I am seeing.

- Will 8x rated media burn on 4x DVD writers (Nec 1300A)?
- Will the quality be degraded?
- Is it best to stick to 4x media?

I am tempted by the price of these Hyundai 4x DVD-R:

I would like to use those with my NEC 1300A firmware Herry 1.0Ctest2 (latest available on 20 Feb 2005).

1) Can anyone tell me if these are sufficient? (no need for good quality; just cheap backups)

Hi Guys, I have just bought a bunch of 4x BenQ media. I find they burn well for me.....but my DDW-082 (firmware 377) will only burn them at 4x.

Has anyone been able to get them to burn faster? Is there a better firmware for this machine/
