I don't know much about the subject, thought you could help...

First thing I'd like to know is whether it's advisable to buy now, or maybe it would be better to wait a couple of month to get better/cheaper devices..

just got some dvd-r and dvd+r from the office depot deal. prob is that i'm not sure about the quality... read some threads but am very confused.

got the dvd-r made in taiwan with a grey bottm and a clear cd on top
got the dvd+r made in taiwan with the black bottom and two plastic rings on top. can anyone tell me if these are any good? i'm hearing ricoh and cmc? wha?

Known that DDW061 can be upgraded to DDW081 through firmware refresh. Some people even said that they can further upgrade to the upcoming DDW082. But just curious, is 061 & 081 indeed the same machine with different firmware shipped ? Or 061 are those drives which cannot pass all 081 QC and now we can "overclocK" it.

Also, anyway known DVD+R/+RW media which cannot be used on 061 ?

Was just wondering if anyone knows if the Liteon 811S can be firmware upgraded to do 8X - R recording?

I would be mainly concerned with burn quality and reliability. I have had only Plextor CD burners in the past and have been quite satisfied. But its just that the Liteon is cheaper, and I know Liteon makes some pretty good stuff.

Does any one know of a program to force format DVD minus RW disc.
I recently bought a LG DVD 4040B DVD/Ram/+ & - burner which came with B's Recorder Gold, NeoDVD and B's Clip for UDF formats.

I tried to burn a small test DVD rip onto a DVD-RW disc using the B's Recorder Gold program and the dam thing froze in burning the lead out.

I'm in the market for a DVD burner and was wondering which of these two drives would be best:

Plextor PX-708A -- $189.99
Sony DRU530A -- $196.00

An Extremetech review tends to favor the Plextor.

Any recommendations for what media would work best based on the particular drive?

Anyone have any preferences? Making really nice animated menus and such is a big requirement for me.

just got the liteon 411s from the circuit city deal. prob is i want to buy media but don't have a clue what dvd-r dvd+r and the rest are? tried searching online but was no help... help?
