Well you do have the most expensive anyways. I would not call it the best. The Pioneer 107 will run circles around the 712A any day of the week with damn near ANY Media.

I'll have to admit when I hit 'submit' on that message I thought I'd rightfully get flack. I'd like to say my intent wasn't to brag, but just to hollar for joy. I'd wanted a plex for years and finally bought one.
I had not heard of the Pioneer 107, but after a good look at (atleast the conclusions) of the Plextor PX712A & Pioneer 107 reviews at CD Freaks and I already read the Plex review here, I am in the right drive.
I had a Pioneer (in a Toshiba label) DVD-Rom and it ran great for a couple years.
Regarding running circles around the Plex with any media, that is one key area in CD-Freaks review was the Pioneer's problems with media and the Plex's great tolerance for it. My plex has burned every piece of 4x media I've put in it at 8x (actually 7.5x because my enclosure seems to bottle neck it.) with perfect results. I couldn't be happier.
but now I've still gotta find me a good deal on 4x media. I figure with the 8x media just hitting the islands I should be able to fill up a box of cheap 4x and still get 8x on it.
