Office Max Khypermedia 4X DVD+R for 19.99

Postby Rich on Thu Aug 05, 2004 9:31 am

Hi, I just searched all over here and couldn't find any plugs or knocks for Khypermedia DVD+R media at Office Max.

They have it for 19.99 this week, down from a normal $54.99.

Is this good media or junk? Also who makes it?

I have a Plex 712A and want to burn it at 8x.

Please let me know 'cause I wanna buy it today.

THANKS!

Rich

They are CMC MAG discs. They are JUNK. Stay away from them...
Using Plextor 716UF...
Using BenQ 1620...
Thinking about BenQ 1640...
Would love a BenQ Blu-Ray...

well it depends on what burner you have.

i have a liteon 811s and i tried burning them at 8x and they just suck at 8x, i burn dvds for movies only and every single of them froze at that end of movie. then i burned them at 4x and i got 2 coasters out of 10 but if i had burned them w/my benq 800a or nec 2500a, i might of gotten better results but i did not have these burners at the time.
u must remember a LITEON 811S SUCKS and u will get different results w/different burners
NEC 2500A $20 10/04
NEC 3500AG for $47 4/05
NEC 3540 for $35 9/05
BENQ 1620 for $36 9//05

hey rich, please read this!!!

i was at officemax today and decided to buy those khypermedia/value disks 50 pack dvd+r for $19.99 and i tested them and burned them at 8x speed on my BENQ 800A and they burned perfectly without freezes or errors.
as i said before, it depends on what burner you have and now i am going to buy 2 more packs. these may not be the best but if you have the right burner, then they are worth getting.

i hate my LITEON 811S and i just sold it today for $55.00 and i told the person who bought it to only buy good media because this burner will not burn the cheap ones like the BENQ 800A did.
i will next try these discs out on my NEC 2500A

hey rich, what burner are you using?

Wow, big bummer.

I have the best, a Plextor PX712A.

I can't get this deal now. I asked about this since today I got to borrow a truck to get around and went to costco. I was going to go by Office Max and get these on the way but for the concern over them. Now I can't possibly get there til next Tuesday.

Oh well. There will be more deals. I'll just keep watchin.

Thanks just the same,

Rich

sorry to hear that

borrow that truck again and go get those blanks but u could go to www.pricewatch.com and click on media to look for all different types of dvd blanks. i know that you can get 50 pack of prodisc's for about $25.00 or you can get RITEK 50pack for the same price and they are so much better than the KHYPERMEDIA

i am not knockin all LITEON DVD BURNERS, i only had one bad experience with one LITEON BURNER out of 6 burners i have owned but this was my first LITEON DVD burner.
i will buy another LITEON DVD burner in the future but NOT the 811S model.

I work days until Tuesday. And 2 jobs on Saturday, just no time. Re the online stuff I'll just wait. There will be more deals, they will only get cheaper. I thought I had 30 but only about 15, but that'll last a while.

I have a Memorex (liteon) 52/24/52 and adore it.

Lets see, I've got a:
Plextor PX712A
Memorex 52/24/52
Mad-dog 16x dvdrom
Dead toshiba 16x dvdrom
Teac 16-10-40
A Memorex 2/2/6
and finally an old Reveal 2x Cdrom

hotdog!

BENQ 800A & NEC 2500A RULES

Postby liteonrules on Sat Aug 07, 2004 7:57 pm

i burned the khypermedia 4x DVD+R at 8x on both my BENQ and NEC and these burners burned these discs perfectly, i am amazed on how these burners burned cheap media that good. i was not done testing these burners, i bought a 50 pack 2x sonic dvd-r's last week for $11.70 online and my NEC burned these discs at 4x speed with the same quality as the khypermedia. i love these burners but i wish i wasn't too cheap to pay $10.00 to upgrade the BENQ 800A to burn DVD-R'S unless this burner can burn DVD-R's as good as it does on the DVD+R's
NEC 2500A $20 10/04
NEC 3500AG for $47 4/05
NEC 3540 for $35 9/05
BENQ 1620 for $36 9//05

While my BTC is not the greatest burner, and CMC is not the greatest media, my BTC 1008, and CMC (sold as DVD+R 4x) media seem to create a very workable disc.

Well you do have the most expensive anyways. I would not call it the best. The Pioneer 107 will run circles around the 712A any day of the week with damn near ANY Media.

When I purchased my Samsung DVD writer from Microcenter, I also bought 4 25 packs of unbranded DVD-R discs. Out of 100, only about 25 burned without error. CMC is one of the brand of discs that my Samsung recommends. I'm going to give them a try and hope for the best.

I'll have to admit when I hit 'submit' on that message I thought I'd rightfully get flack. I'd like to say my intent wasn't to brag, but just to hollar for joy. I'd wanted a plex for years and finally bought one.

I had not heard of the Pioneer 107, but after a good look at (atleast the conclusions) of the Plextor PX712A & Pioneer 107 reviews at CD Freaks and I already read the Plex review here, I am in the right drive.

I had a Pioneer (in a Toshiba label) DVD-Rom and it ran great for a couple years.

Regarding running circles around the Plex with any media, that is one key area in CD-Freaks review was the Pioneer's problems with media and the Plex's great tolerance for it. My plex has burned every piece of 4x media I've put in it at 8x (actually 7.5x because my enclosure seems to bottle neck it.) with perfect results. I couldn't be happier.

but now I've still gotta find me a good deal on 4x media. I figure with the 8x media just hitting the islands I should be able to fill up a box of cheap 4x and still get 8x on it.

Crankshaft:

Were you referring to those "platinum" dvdr's sold in Microcenter? I don't know who really makes them, but I hear nothing but trouble about them. They should be ashamed to sell those discs. If you have any of those discs left, can you post the info from DVDInfo media scan?
