;) No problem aviationwiz.
You're welcome!

How did you know that cfitz and I are twin brothers???
It was supposed to be a secret.

I can't wait to get the PX-708A.

I read that the new Benq 8X is a joint venture with Philips (who has their own 8X drive coming out).
I believe their optical divisions have joint ventures for a number of their optical drives.

You're absolutely right on that one. Philips and BenQ formed an optical storage joint venture. They're upcoming 8x+R/RW drives (Philips DVDRW824 and BenQ DW800A) are basically the same.
Too bad that they will most likely be making +drives only.

Let's hope this one works out better than Philip's joint venture with LG on LCD displays has so far. I have yet to see the tangible rewards on that one.
In addition to better and cheaper LCD-displays, I had hoped that LG's optical products would be cheaper and more available in Holland. They haven't. :( The LG -4040 is way more expensive than in the US/ROK at e230. For that money I'd rather go for the new Plextor.

MikeTR,

Thanks for the model number of the Philips.
I knew it was an 800 series, but it was too late at night when I posted to go searching.

Yes, they will most likely not make a dual burner variant, since Philips was after all the proponent of +RW technology.

Pioneer has in effect indirectly admitted (by producing the dual format A06/DVR-106) that -RW technology (which it was the key promoter of) is being beaten by +RW popularity, at least in terms of popularity.

Speaking about +RW and -RW, I am going to post about
some surprising compatiblity findings.

Does anyone know what this +VR format is?

DVD+VR = DVD+RW Real Time Video Format.
This format allows adding, editing, partial deleting and partial over-writing on a DVD+RW disc, while still remaining compatible with ordinary DVD-Video players

Thanks for the info.
That sounds great.
BTW, I just replied to your last DVD-RAM message in my Inbox.

My brother would no doubt love DVD+VR, as he likes to create customized, edited videos on DVD of his Mini DV movies.

I'll wait until newegg gets them in, I'll probably upgrade it to like 2nd day there. Livewirewarehouse only offers USPS Priority (not safe for a dvd burner) and UPS Ground (add's cost, and a tad to slow for my patience)

That is pretty funny, unless it is July 23rd 2004, J/K.

Bestbuy(.com) will have it as well, for full retail price.
ETA there is 9/8 - 9/17.

I think it would cost more than the UK site's (which has them now) quoted prices, since there are duties to ship to the US from the UK right?
His price is about $300 (did it off the top of my head, using a recent exchnage rate), before shipping and import duties.

Like you, I will also wait till a US supplier has it, especially since Newegg moved their date to Sept 2 (this coming Tuesday) from Sept 8.

At BestBuy that's the estimated arrival date at your house, if you do next day air, you'll get it on the 8th. I'd do it, but I am not paying $300 I can get for $260. Considering I have to do both online. No telling when BestBuy stores will get it in.

Sorry, you're right, that is the .com shipping arrival date.
I wasn't thinking straight.
If I got it from BB it would be a store purchase only, so I could get it a fair amount sooner than Newegg, but it looks like that won't be the case anyway...

Make sure to do it with UPS Ground. USPS Priority is to unreliable for a DVD Burner.

The thing is they offer Free Priority Mail shipping, included in the price Ian quoted.
UPS Ground is too slow (one week for me) anyway, since Newegg does it Fedex Super Saver which takes only 2 - 3 days from CA to the East Coast!

The thing is LiveWarehous says they usually ship in 2 - 3 business days, in that case, Newegg would be as fast, if not faster, plus there is a Fedex center right by my train station where I could pick it up if I am not home...
