Question about JLMS and Pioneer drives

What's the difference between JLMS's XJ-HD166S and XJ-HD165H, and again between Pioneer's DVD-120 and DVD-500M?

the differences betwen the 166s and 165h is this:

1. Acoustic noise improvement
2. Disc scratch free design
3. User protection against fragment of crashing disc
4.Tray in/out noise improvement
5. Better dust proof
6. Protection wall on tray motor
7. Symmetric suspension points (good for vibration)
8. Light Weight (good for vibration)
9. Stronger structure against drop or shock

5. Better dust proof

I'm very glad to hear that. Just the other day I replaced a LTD-163 that failed after 2+ years of use, with a new 166s. I believe dust was a major factor in its demise. Just what is the expected lifespan of a DVD/CD ROM drive?

Also is there an online tutorial with graphics anywhere that shows the disassembly steps involved so a thorough internal cleaning can be performed?

theres nothing really to taking apart a optical drive's shell casing, just a few screws

just to let you know my 166s bit the dust after about 5 months of use, course were talking about me, i used that thing so heavy, probably the worst abuser on these forums

considering i always did movie copied directly from it to my dvd burner, and ive probably burned roughly 800 movies with the 166s as my reader

and besides its not like JLMS drives are known for there rock solid build quality and longevity, so far my aopen 1640 pro-a (pioneer 106s) lasted me 3 years, still using it to this day for my movie copying

like he said, he had a 166S drive and ripped a LOT of DVDs on it.

haha thx dodech, it ripped at full 16x on single layer dvds, and like 10-12x on dual layer

course your only hitting that towards the end of the dvd but its still that much faster all the way through the rip process
