Nero 6 volume label doesn't change

Postby eranros on Fri Apr 02, 2004 5:26 am

I've had this bug for a long time - can't say on which version it started.
The compilation volume lable doesn't change when you start a new compilation. It happens on CD-ROM ISO type compilation, as well as on VCD and SVCD - I haven't tried others. Instead of the default "new" volume label Nero remembers the last lable used.
I searched the forums for this bug but didn't find it. Can anyone confirm? Is there a solution (perhaps a registry fix?)

Is this Nero 6 or Nero 5.5?

I tested this with Nero 6.3.1.6 in Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express and can not duplicate this.

Nero Burning ROM shows NEW in the compilation window. Nero Express shows My Disc for the Disc Name.

Anyone else running into this?

P.S. I have not tested Nero 5.5 yet. I will wait for your response.

I have been using Nero 6 for at least four months now...and every version does that. When you put a name in the compilation...it stays. Version 5 would always revert back to NEW...then you can change it and use whatever name for the burn...then back to NEW. With v6...whatever name you change it to is what stays.

A minor bug or flaw...

Yup I have seen the same thing. I have never liked the naming method in Nero 5.5 or 6. I would like to set it to name disks consecutively say "001_04_03_04" disk1, "002_04_03_04" disk2 etc. (001=disk#,04_03_04=date) This should stay current by it self. This way you do not have to change the name manually and no 2 disks will have the same name. Having 2 or more disks with the same name causes problems with xp refreshing disks contents.

nero 6.3.1.6 is doing this still to me also. Even in different computers and OS's.

Add another confirmation from me. Every version of 6 that I have tried has kept the last label rather than reverting to "NEW". I assumed this was a new "feature" (although not one I wanted - I prefer the old way or, even better yet, something like wonderwrench's suggestion) so I never mentioned it.

I was able to reproduce this on another system. My Laptop needs to be cleaned off apparently, as I could not duplicate it there. But I've had a lot of 'crap' installed on it in the past month and I need to restore the original Image to make it a viable test base system again. :(

Thanks to everyone for providing feedback on this issue. I'll generate a bug report, as well as a Feature request. But before I do so, I would like to get a majority rule on how you all want our software to react in these situations. Here is what I will suggest, unless this forum has a better suggestion.

1) After a write has been completed, Nero Burning ROM/Nero Express will remember the name given and for every consectutive write after that will append a number to the original Volume Name. So it would work like

Given Name: CraigsData
Second write: CraigsData_01
Third Write: CragsData_02
etc....

This is to continue in this fashion until Nero Burning ROM/Nero Express is closed.

2) Each time Nero Burning ROM/Nero Express is launched, it will revert back to the default settings and list the Volume Name as 'NEW'.

Is this how everyone would like to see our software function? We'll go by majority rule for this bug/feature fix.

Personally I preffer the "New" label. This way if I forget to change it, it's just a generic label. Otherwise, you might label volumes with misleading labels.

Having 2 or more disks with the same name <NEW> will still cause problems with xp refreshing disks contents.

So far, it looks like 2 to 1 in favor of having the Name revert to NEW for each new compilation. I will give it 2 more days, and if I do not see a change in the majority opinion, I'll create the bug report and ask it to be resolved in favor of NEW being the default setting.

I'm fine with it defaulting to NEW as well. I can change it to whatever I want (example)...I keep all my ATI video drivers on a Disk called ATI. I keep my Nero Updates on a disk called Nero 6. I can burn the named compilations and also keep adding to them. Then when I reopen Nero...it is back to NEW. That's fine with me.

Thanks for taking care of this...

isn't it possible to have both ways, and choose between them with a setting in the preferences (with the default going to changing to NEW every compilation)? your option #1 makes a lot of sense to me.

Well if there is only one way <new> or last used name i'd pick new. But the fact remains the correct default name should be a number with date.
001_04_07_04, 002_04_07_04 etc. or similar.

The only thing I have missed in Nero 55 or 6 compaired to Easy CD Creator is the method of default naming.

I like defaulting to New also. I have considered this a bug for a while too.

Default setting to NEW it is. Bug Report has been created.

I've also requested a new Feature for Preferences that can be enabled to allow you to set the default Name to your liking, and to allow automatic numbering. Being this is a feature request, I can not say when or if this will be added.

Looks like one of my colleagues has beat me to the punch in creating the bug report for this issue. As I've mentioned before, I'm not the only one visiting the forums.

He generated the bug report a few days ago, and also brought to my attention that Nero 6 Burning ROM already has the auto numbering feature. I've seen this, but keep forgetting about it as I've never had to use it.

It's only available when in Nero Burning ROM mode.

1) Launch Nero Burning ROM
2) Select CROM(ISO) format
3) Go to the LABEL Tab
4) Click on the ADD COUNTER button

And here you can set

A) Start Counter With
B) Increase Counter by
C) Set the 'Minimum number of digits'
D) Set the Counter type to be based on 'Compilation Counter' or 'Disc Coutner'
E) And Even set the 'Feild Descriptor'.

So it looks like we already have the features requested by some. All we need to do is resolve the issue with the name being reset to 'NEW' by default.

Sorry again for not catching this the first time. There's just so much to the Nero 6 Ultra Edition that even I forget some of it's features. :D

Regards,

Craig

The issue with the last label not reverting back to NEW has been resolved. The next release of Nero 6 posted on our website will incorporate this fix.

Just FYI.
