Dodecahedron Jr.

General discussion. Come introduce yourself. Talk about whataver you want!

Postby ruderacer on Fri Aug 27, 2004 11:04 pm

Congrats! You have a beautiful baby!

About the poo thing, get a Haz-Mat suit. I remember when my daughter's diaper needed changing and asking my wife, what are you feeding this kid? It is not cute and it does smell!

However, I would not trade any of it for the world. The rewards are endless. Just today my daughter(she just started first grade) took her first spelling quiz and did very well. You'll see that everything your child does will be special, even that first poop.

Congrats again to you and your wife on your beautiful baby!

More pics!

This time Dodecahedron Jr. takes a nap:

As big as he is, he still looks so small in his bassinet. (Is that the right term?? - You fathers will have to help me with my baby-related vocabulary)

Here are couple of closeups:

So innocent and peaceful. :)

P.S. I can't get over how much he has already changed. Yes, I understand that the first pics were taken shortly after birth, but even so...

Hi Dodecahedron Jr,

You sure are a good looking fellow :D :D - but of course you have to be to get your Mom to do all that work and have your Dad to take the pictures (some Dad's don't bother :^o)! That was hard work being fed and changed- good to have a sleep to recover and to produce some more "really cute poo"!

And say a big thank you to Uncle cfitz for helping to share the pictures.

thanks guys.

as for the poop smell, well it doesn't stink.
at least not when they're < 1 week old, and they breast feed too.

yesterday he peed at me!
notorious male-diaper-removal effect...got it twice

oh boy...the circumcision ceremony is in 3 hours...i hope it isn't too painful for him :(

Okay, the first time maybe you didn't know (although even I knew about that effect). But what is your excuse for the second time? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

Or for you, being a guy and having to watch... I wonder if there are any "sympathetic" pains. :o

Seriously, I hope it goes well. And I feel for the little guy too.

Ouch! Just curious, do they do it under anaesthesia? I expect it would hurt quite a lot!
Oh, and does a rabbi do the circumcision?

smartass :-?
anyway it's a well known phenomenon, i knew about it before the first time.
but when you're doing the diaper-change and he's bawling, the last thing on your mind is worrying if he's going to pee on you :o
anyway you don't really mind when that happens...what annoys me is that i have to change the towels he's lying on when he does that...he's getting our towels into the laundry bin faster than i can get them washed :o :o also the diapering-matress which is a pain to re-wash...

what happened today was really suprising (never heard of this one before) - he peed on himself! an arc all the way to his own face! :o :( poor baby

BTW the poop does not smell bad. not yet anyway.

:x not really funny.
i'm familiar with all those stupid jokes adults males pass around at such occasions - "yeah i remember.." etc. but as the father/mother the only thing your concerned about is his pain :(
anyway the ceremony went OK i guess, he wasn't in too much pain. the ensuing family celebration was a bit more than i could take.

anaesthesia is not mandatory, nor common i believe.
we chose a Mohel which is also an MD (this is not very common at all) he did use anaesthesia so i hope the pain wasn't too bad for my son.
and in any case i don't know if it's very painful, it's just skin that's being removed...who knows? but from what i've heard, when it's preformed on adults it is quite painful (people who convert to Judaisim, and maybe Moslems when making passage rites from childhood to manhood? i don't really know).

the title of the person who does the circumcision is "Mohel". the ceremony is a religious one, so the job of Mohel is a religious one you might say. but he's not a Rabbi (not usually anyway). it's just a Jewish profession.

oh, by the way:
his name is Yoav.

it's pronounced as 2 syllables: Yo-av.

the 'o' in 'Yo' is a short 'o'. meaning it sounds a bit like the beginning
of the words go,show, tow, without the 'w' sound at the end. but it's a
longer 'o' than then 'o' in hot, shot etc.

the 'av' is pronounced more or less like you might think, but the 'a' in the
beginning is a strong 'a', kind of like in the word are.

i guess this topic is dying down...not too many people interested in a discussion on the merits of the baby poop :o :)

thaks for all the good wishes from all you guys and gals. 8)

Hey, as always tech specs for everything, what about the meaning of the name?

Unfair!! :x I was going to ask that.
dodecahedron wrote:it's pronounced as 2 syllables: Yo-av.

So the name has nothing to do with the Roman "God-Father", then. Is the emphasis on the first syllable?

proper pronounciation is on the last (second) syllable. Yoav.
but in daily usage, in many Hebrew names the emphasis shifts to the one-before-last syllable. Yoav. that's most likely what he'll be called by most people.

it's a Biblical name.
Yoav Ben Tzruya. literally means: Yoav son of Tzruya (i belive Tzruya was Yoav's mother. Ben means 'son of', usually followed by the father's name, this case is an exception).
he was King David's Warlord (= General of David's armies, his Chief of Staffs). if i recall correctly, his mother Tzruya was David's sister.

now that i think of it...not that it was any consideration at all when choosing the name, but my first name is that of a friend of Kind David too :D so Yoav is a good choice in the historical sense too :)

thanks dudes.

and BTW for those who asked what the name means, well i gave the "historical" context but forgot, as my wife pointed out, the etymology of the name.
i guess Yoav = God Father (LOL  that came out funny!) or maybe should be God Fathered ???

Yo is for God's name in Hebrew.
examples:
Yonatan (= English Jonathan ): Yo=God, natan=gave. so i guess "God given"
Yohanan (=English John): Yo=God, Hanan=blessed/pardoned. so = "God Blessed" (blessed by god?)
etc.

Av means father.

so Yoav would be God-father. so maybe this means 'God is Father' or 'Fathered by God' ?

(this is the extent of my knowledge of etymology of biblical Hebrew names :-? )

By Jove, that facetious remark wasn't that far off then. Maybe there is an etymological connection afterall. Do we have an etymologist in the audience?

Thanks for the additional info- I like to get behind the meaning of things.
