Sony CRX220A1...firmware available?

Postby snjbrian on Sat Sep 11, 2004 7:10 pm

Hello all,

First let me say this forum is awesome! I am lucky I found it.

OK...I have a Sony CRX220E1 but everyone says it is really an A1. Under Win XP Pro Device Manager it says E1.

My current firmware is 6YS1.
My burner is supposed to burn at 52X but I can never get it above 40X. All my hardware/software is up to date as of 9/11/2004. I have tried all brands of cd-rw media too!

I was wondering if there was any other firmware available for this cd-rw burner that might fix this problem?
I have checked dhc014.rpc1.org. It has the same firmware I am running.

Is there another solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance....
Brian

TURBOBOOST HUH?

Postby snjbrian on Sun Sep 12, 2004 10:06 pm

WOW! I never heard of such a thing. I bought it whitebox from Newegg.com so there were no instructions. I typically always buy Lite-On drives. I just get so much bang for buck!

OK...I am going to try this TurboBoost. I held down my button just now and it blinked. I will burn a disk tonight to test it.

Let me ask one final question....is this model really a Lite-On with Sony labels? If so, is there BETTER Lite-On firmware that I could upgrade to to make it 52X forever or maybe an upgrade to rpovide richer performance?

Thanks for the help and the Turbo tip!

This Turbo thing sucks!!!!!!!!!

OK...I am running at 52X but I have to PRESS and HOLD the button every single time I burn!!!!!!! If I had bought this thing retail I would have burned down the store that sold it to me!

Are there any solutions for overcoming this on my model?

yes, you can flash it to a Lite-On drive (with Lite-On firmware) and then you don't have to do this 'hold the eject button' thing.

how to do that - dunno, but you can find info on it in the forum...maybe try dhc014's page at rpc1.org

OH I see

I did not get it at first...the dhc014 firmware page listings are kind of cryptic. I did not know the (OEM - LTR 52246S) next to my Sony drives listings was code meaning Lite-On firmware is compatible!!! lol

Cool. Ok, I am going to try it following the instructions on his site. Pray to the Gods of Technology for me!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the tip Dodeca

NO SOAP!!!

Postby snjbrian on Wed Sep 15, 2004 10:59 am

I downloaded the firmware file, it is an auto patching program. It says that no Lite-On drive was detected. It finds my Sony, no problem! lol

Any other thoughts or ideas?

OK...let me just reply by quoting Homer J. Simpson - "Mmmmmmmmm....FlashFix"

This is amazing stuff folks! Just when I think I have seen it all.

Ok...one last thing - Maybe I should start a new post -

I have a Samsung SD-616T DVD-ROM drive. I do not see it listed at the DHC014 site. Is there a DVD firmware site you could recommend? Is the Samsung drive really an OEM and if so, who is the real manufacturer or where can I read more?

Thanks A MILLION times over for baring with this NOOB!

PS - My Sony drive is now listed as a Lite-On by Windows and Nero. lol Not that I care. To be honest, I almost always buy Lite-On regardless of reviews of other drives. Solid performance, no troubles and low prices...how much better can it get? lol

Thanks to you and Dave for helping me out.

Things are rocking and rolling now!

Now I just need to defrag, then I am going to image my hard drives with Ghost 9.0 and I am ready for some playtime this weekend!
