Can this be right? C1 Average=0.00!!

Burn baby burn!

Can this be right? C1 Average=0.00!!

Slapped a (very) old Yamaha 16x10x40 CD-RW drive into a friends equaly old PC, since he didn't have a cd burner in it. I did a test burn on it using Memorex 52x CD-R's (a Ritek). Due to the slowness of his computer, I burned the disc at 8x. This is what the quality scan (using Nero CD Speed) came back as:

General Information
Drive: JLMS XJ-HD166S
Firmware: DS1C
Disc: Audio CD
Selected speed: Maximum
C1 errors
Maximum: 3
Average: 0.00
Total: 13
C2 errors
Maximum: 0
Average: 0.00
Total: 0
Jitter: n/a
Scanning statistics
Number of samples: 12468
Average scanning interval: 0.21 sec
Glitches removed: 0

Now granted it was only about 42 minutes long, but still: C1 Average=0.00

If that's accurate (and I know the results from a DVD-ROM aren't 100% accurate), then I may just steal this drive and use it for archiving my important stuff!

Wonder what it could do with TY's...

Edit: Orginaly posted that the disc was a CMC, since it was a Memorex. However, it's a Ritek - the first Memorex's I've seen that were Ritek. Guess I should start buying Memorex again, since Maxell's CD-Rs aren't Riteks anymore....

My daughter has my Yamaha 3200 something CD-RW in her PC now. Those Yamahas were great burners. Second only to Plextor, and not by much, if at all.

does that drive even report C2 errors?
'cause if not, it will say 0 errors! :D

Use a Lite-On CDRW drive for scanning for C1/C2 errors. That 166S DVDROM will not give you accurate results.

The yamaha isn't supported by the software when it comes to error measurements that's while you get 0 back.
I don't know if the Yamaha can actually read C1. C2 it can however it does it in a way no programm supports of today at least that was what I heard years ago when the drive was released.

Cheapest way to get a drive for testing will probally be picking up a Lite On.
Like the people here allready suggested.

That scan was done on the 166 DVD drive; it's the only thing I have to scan with at the moment. Still waiting for my BenQ 1620...

Like Bhairav said, LiteOn DVD drives are not useful for scanning CDs. They report C1/C2 in a different way from a CD burner (Karr Wang said "cooked" as opposed to "raw").
